Julie Byrd Diana is an acrylic painter and photographer residing in John’s Island, South Carolina.  While she studied under two different artists, her work is mostly self taught.  Julie’s professional promotion of her artwork includes acceptance into juried gallery exhibitions and juried art festivals in South Carolina, Florida and Indiana.  Julie has won multiple awards for both painting and photography.

Julie is currently an active juried member of the Charleston Artist Guild Gallery and Edisto Art Guild.  Julie has been honored to be the Featured Artist in June 2023 and a Featured Photographer in a Group exhibition in January 2024 at the Charleston Artist Guild Gallery.  Her works have also been featured in prestigious gallery exhibits such as City Gallery and Cox Gallery at the College of Charleston.

Julie's impasto style of impressionist painting involves heavy application of acrylic paint onto canvas, applied with palette knife and brush strokes.  Texture, bold, vibrant colors and iridescent hints are often seen in her acrylic works.  Lowcountry scenes are inspirational subjects to her, however she is by no means limited to this area only.

In addition to being a painter, Julie is also a third-generation photographer. She captures the essence and mood of the moment.  Black and white/monochromatic photography is her preferred choice, but she also captures scenes with vivid color, texture, shape and form.  Emphasis on perspective lines, use of light/dark creating rich contrast, as well as the ability to move the eye, are hallmarks of her photography.

The Charleston area media has published several articles relating to her works and artistic inspirations and ability, including publications on her “Art on the Half Shell” painted oyster sculpture located in Mount Pleasant Towne Centre.  Charleston Style and Design magazine recently featured two different articles in the Summer 2024 edition on Julie and her works.  She has patrons across the nation, collecting her works and following her artistic pursuits.
