Through the Years with
The Edisto Players
It all began back in 1992 with a production of Daddys Dyin’ Who’s Got the Will presented under a tent on a tennis court on the Fairfield Ocean Ridge resort. Directors were Shane Lawrence and Suzanne Rine and the cast included Ginger Lee, Stephanie Tumbleston, Ella Holforty, Elaine Howard, Richard Rhoden, Gary Nale, Shane Lawrence and Laura Goodwin.
The group was revived in 1994 under the leadership of Jennie Gowan, Tom McDonald and Dee Moseley with a production of Greater Tuna which was “staged” in what was then a vacant room in the Pavilion.

The following year we were excited to move our production to the Edisto Island Community Center (the old school building) which had a small stage. We continued to use that facility for the next six years with Tom and Dee alternating directing duties while the other was in the cast.

This facility was so limited in space that our prompter, Judy Blancett, and our lighting technician, Ed Winslow, had to “hide out” behind an upright piano on the floor in front of the stage. And please note that while most of these photos are of the actors, we could not produce these plays without the help of all those dedicated backstage workers. They make it possible for the actors to enjoy the spotlight.
Our next two plays were staged at Jane Edwards School. Both had large casts and we needed the extra space.

2004 brought a big change! The brand new Edisto Beach Education and Civic Center was finished and we had a new home. Also, this was the year that Tom asked Cheryl VanMetre to assist him in directing A Bad Year For Tomatoes and she was such a great asset that she became our director for most of the following…
